Balanced Budget Amendment, bah humbug.

For years I've been opposed to forcing the fed.gov to balance its budget.

Not because I'm horrified and appalled at the sheer amount of money being spent over and above revenues, but because no BBA would ever fly without loopholes. War, for one. And I'm sure other loopholes would be "found" as required.

Comes now Jerry Pournelle and says essentially the same thing:

Note that it’s the Club for Growth that says a Balanced Budget Amendment is crucial: I have not said that. As several of you have indicated in mail, that’s a formula for automatic tax growth, not for thrift. The only way to cut the budget is for the Congress to appropriate less money.

Yep. And yep. Want higher taxes? Support a BBA. Because you know that'll be the outcome.
