So my Android phone updates itself to 2.2 (Froyo) overnight Saturday/Sunday, which is cool because now I have the wifi hotspot feature.
But then this morning I pick up the phone and check whether it's charged. And it scolds me:
"Battery full, Please unplug power supply to save energy."*
Yeah, right. I probably waste less power all day than Google wastes in a second with all its gigantic server farms.
It occurs to me that if Google were to get behind building a bunch of nuclear power plants around the country, this wouldn't be anything to worry about. Even the apocryphal grandma who conscientiously puts the kiddie-safe plugs in her outlets to keep the electricity from leaking out could relax. Till then, it seems to me that worrying about the milliwatts wasted by microwave clocks and phone chargers when we don't appear to have a problem wasting food by turning it into fuel (corn ethanol) and worrying about how we're going to retrofit every home in the country with a 60 amp, 240V car charging station is kind of like worrying about whether one will be at ground zero during a nuclear explosion.
In either case I don't think I care.
