96th and Clusterfuck

Have you ever had the misfortune to need to get through the intersection of 96th Street and Township Line Road on Indy's NW side?

At rush hour?

Try it some time (like I did this morning at precisely 8:05AM). With probably a hundred cars total in all four directions trying to get through a stupid little four-way stop. Talk about your bottlenecks.

Hamilton County owns that intersection. Hamilton County needs to upgrade that intersection to a traffic signal and add left-turn lanes and arrows while they're at it. And they've needed to do that for at least 20 years.

I'm unsure if the intersection was annexed by Carmel. I hope it wasn't; Mayor Brainless would probably insist on another one of his stupid-ass roundabouts that don't work with that much traffic. (Try the ones at 116th and Springmill sometime, again, at rush hour, if you don't believe me.)

I'm sure the argument you'd get out of Hamilton County is that the improvements are only needed at certain times of the day, and as such, they can't justify the expense. Well, duh, you stupid motherfuckers. Rush hour bottlenecks tend to be comparatively short-lived, but they're still bottlenecks.

And you spent the money to put one in at Shelbourne and 96th, which isn't even a 4-way intersection. (Well, it is, but the south leg goes into a private parking lot.) Why not upgrade 96th and Township Line, too?
