So Secretary of State Todd Rokita is, at this very moment, talking the Indianapolis Rotarians about his plan for redistricting state House and Senate districts.
Looks like it makes perfect sense to me; take redistricting out of the hands of the people who benefit from it most and who have the largest conflict of interest, i.e., incumbent officeholders. Make district lines easy to understand. Make districts compact instead of wandering way out past Kelly's just to pick up more of the incumbent's party faithful.
Some of those incompetent, er, incumbent officeholders who would be affected don't like that very much.
"It's the laziest way you can possibly draw these," [Senate President Pro-Tempore David Long, R-Fort Wayne] said.
Talk about the pot calling the kettle black! What's easier than gerrymandering your district so you're assured of re-election without much of a fight?
Throw the bums out. All of 'em.
