We had about four inches of coins in the bottom of a five-gallon water jug and decided to count them. (Sally is going to the casino tomorrow and needed nickels and quarters.)
That came to $172...without counting the 19 pounds of pennies that are going to the CoinStar; I can't be bothered to roll them and neither can she. And you can get full value in gift cards at CoinStar now.
Damn. She took forty-six bucks and we still have enough left over for dinner for two at Ruth's Chris. (Full disclosure: We own three shares.) And I'm willing to bet there's at least another $25-$30 in pennies there.
Emptying your pockets from time to time does end up paying.
