without linkage on a couple of things I heard today.
The IUPUI Chancellor fucked up. He should have told the BSU to go back to class. Hiring a "diversity officer" is the last thing the university should do -- all this multiculturalism bullshit does is divide students along cultural lines instead of bringing them together as a collegial whole. (That's one of the reasons it's called "college", of course.)
I will never give another dime to IUPUI (I have never given a dime to IU itself) and I will never support another program down there. They can kiss my ass when they come looking for former student government officials to help dedicate the new student center. And that grieves me on two levels. One, because I really want to donate to the fund the History Department set up in memory of Scott Seregny. Two, because I really believe in the need for the new center, and I fought for it the entire 10 years I was on campus as a student and an employee.
I see now also that they're going to review student organization funding. Here we go again! The same damn thing happened 15 years ago when the grad students agitated to have their student activity money split off for their own use. It is my great hope that this backfires right into the BSU's face.
The only race problems I ever remember down at IUPUI were caused by the chip most of the BSU members carried around on their shoulders. I don't know what they thought they were owed, but they certainly acted as if they were owed it. If that's harsh, too bad. Try a fundraiser if you need money.
