Ah, Let It Out. That home for the blogless.
This guy doesn't get it:
Alcohol is served in many government buildings in Washington, D.C., including the restaurant at the Ronald Reagan Building. No one is concerned about that, so get over serving beer in a local government building.
You're missing the point. It's not the alcohol -- it's the sleazy way the investors went about building the bar without zoning approval, without permits, and by tearing out a children's playground so they'd have room for a parking lot.
It's clear they never expected to be caught, and it's clear they didn't want it to go through the zoning board, because they knew it would be shot down.
Therefore, the investors need to be punished by losing their investment, if not serving some jail time for anything else the prosecutor can come up with.
On the other hand, this guy makes a good point:
I don't care about bars in public buildings. I want showers there. Anytime I go into a building full of politicians, political hacks and hangers-on, I feel filthy and want to take a shower.
In all fairness, alcohol gets served in a lot of places where you might think it shouldn't be. Except for Masonic Lodge halls in Indiana, of course.
