but let's face facts. Right wing bloggers out there saying that they're going to vote Dem in this election just to teach a lesson to the Pubs ranks among the most self-hating lunacies I have ever heard.
Two years of Dems in charge of Congress would be an unmitigated disaster. You thought Clinton was bad? At least Clinton was forced to govern toward the center, and he didn't have a war on. All a Dem Congress would have to do is cut off funding for the war, and all the troops come home, and Iraq falls, and Iran gloats, and the Norks start nuking innocent mountains again. Oil shoots up over $70 a barrel again, gas goes over $3 again, the economy tanks, and we have to go out and re-elect Pubs again in 2008 just to admit what a bunch of fuckups we were in '06.
If you're out there whining about the Pubs and how they've deserted conservative principles, I guess you've totally forgotten the 40 years of uninterrupted Dem control of the House that finally ended in 1994.
But this is so typical of the Right. Always ready to seize defeat out of the jaws of victory, you betcha. Yet it would be so simple to hold our collective nose and vote for the Pubs, ensure the majority, and then spend the next two years making it abundantly clear that we aren't going to put up with Congress's unconservative shit any longer. (And we need to make it clear to the President, too. No more Mr. Nice Guy. The time for that was over years ago.)
Hate me or love me, but Righties who vote lefty in this election are taking the coward's way out. Those who do will have my unmitigated detestation. Forgiveness for your apostasy will be yours to earn and mine to graciously dispense if and when I think you've earned it.
And for those who think they see a third way: Take your God-damned pot-smoking Libertarian party and shove it up your ass sideways.
So there.
