So that's how Peterson plans to pay for his bloated budget without raising taxes. He must have taken a page out of the Ohio Department of Taxation's book of tricks. (The ODT, out of the blue, came after my wife about a year ago claiming that she hadn't filed her state taxes in 1987 and that she owed them something like $1800. Unfortunately for them, they have no paper records to back up that claim, just an unchecked box on a computer screen -- something my wife's Cincinnatti lawyer friend pointed out to them. And in addition, Sally probably didn't owe them anything to begin with -- to the contrary, she was probably owed a refund. We haven't heard from them since...)
If I were a businessman and tried to collect on debts that old, my creditors would justifiably laugh at me.
Of course, if I were a businessman with debts that old, I probably wouldn't be in business. Can't say the same about the city, unfortunately.
