Prosecutor seizes coroner's records
Brizzi uses search warrant instead of subpoenas in theft probe
Yeah -- because he figured he'd actually get the records that way instead of them being "accidentally" destroyed.
Ackles said he was surprised by the search Tuesday. He complained that the news media seemed to know about the raid before he did. He also noted that Brizzi wore makeup for the TV cameras. He implied that the raid was an election-year publicity stunt by the prosecutor, who is locked in an increasingly competitive bid to win re-election.
What a loser.
Brizzi said he doesn't often attend the execution of search warrants but did so this time so he could explain to Ackles what investigators were doing. He said he last attended the execution of a search warrant for Hoosier Lottery records during the investigation of a scratch-off game scandal in 2004.Half a dozen grand-jury investigators walked with Brizzi into the coroner's office southwest of Downtown just before 11 a.m. Tuesday. They carried out several boxes full of files and computer drives within a few hours.
As I said...this way he gets the stuff and it doesn't "accidentally" disappear.
Ackles, a private-practice chiropractor, was not in the office at 521 W. McCarty St. Informed of the raid by his chief deputy, he chose not to come to the office. He said he had patients in his office and couldn't leave them unattended.
Again -- what a loser.
I have nothing against chiropractors but I would sure think an MD would be required for coroners. We need to get rid of elected coroners and hire qualified people for that job.
A special prosecutor has charged City-County Council member Ron Gibson with three misdemeanors in connection with a July incident outside a Downtown Indianapolis bar.Barry Brown, a former Morgan County prosecutor appointed to investigate Gibson's case, filed three charges this morning - battery against a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct and public intoxication.
On July 16, Gibson had a run-in with Marion County Sheriff's Department Detective Jean Burkert outside Blu Lounge, 232 S. Meridian St. Gibson has denied he was intoxicated and Burkert's accusation that he pushed and threatened her in the incident over Indiana Black Expo's Summer Celebration weekend.
In a crowded area outside the bar, a news release from Brown said, 敵ibson demanded that he be allowed to go in because he was next in line. Detective Burkert noticed that Gibson showed signs of intoxication. She told him that he was not entering the club at that time. He then shouted at her and twice pushed her back with both hands. Gibson was told to leave the area and he did so.
H/T for this one: Indy Undercover.
FWIW, this was on the front page of the Star website (in today's updates if I recall correctly) when I looked 10 minutes ago, and now it's gone.
UPDATE: Now it's back. I guess the Star is having trouble with their crap website. What a surprise.
