BAILEY, Colo. - Park County, Colo., police on Thursday identified the gunman who took six girls hostage - killing one - in a classroom Thursday as 54-year-old Wayne Morrison.Police also said armed law enforcement eventually moved in on Morrison because he was sexually "traumatizing" the victims during negotiations with police.
Yeah, well. At least he wasn't SHOOTING ANYBODY. [EDIT TO CLARIFY: I meant "during the negotiations" and didn't say so.] Being sexually traumatized is something you can get over -- or at least live with -- given time and therapy.
Being fatally shot is kind of permanent.
I don't normally dis cops, but sometimes I think these paramilitary forces called SWAT teams REALLY need to go. I'm thinking if they'd hung in there a little longer trying to negotiate instead of sending in storm troopers (and yes, I know exactly what I'm saying when I use that term), 16-year-old Emily Keyes might still be alive today.
I'm all for saving the court system the trouble and expense of trying and incarcerating people like this jerk, but not to the extent of letting innocent people die, too.
