in the damndest places. Once upon a time in this blog, I wrote:
Prior to the Mexican War, [General U.S. Grant] wrote to the woman who would one day be his wife: "If we have to fight, I would like to do it all at once and then make friends."
Sounds like he wasn't the only one who felt that way.
