Fox is going nuts

over this new tape of Saddam greeting people in the streets of Baghdad.

Personally I suspect that the black smoke plumes in the tape may help tag this as being shot before the war started. Salam Pax mentioned in his blog that he noticed the oil trenches being fired as early as March 2 (see his blog entry at this link).

Until they hold up some NYT front pages or something, I'm still skeptical of any of this being shot after the bunker-buster went in on March 22. I simply would not put it past Saddam to have made all kinds of video footage for use if he was unable to appear in person. All kinds of things (including the vague statement about the peasant shooting down the Apache with an old weapon) could have been taped beforehand and patched together as needed. Put something with verifiable timestamping in those videos, "Saddam", and we'll talk.

UPDATE: Guy on Fox just made the point that it's nearly 100 degrees in Baghdad today, and a number of the people in that outdoor video aren't dressed for 100 degree weather...
