What the fuck is "elite" about a bunch of cowardly civilian-murdering, dictator-protecting, white-flag-abusing scum like the Republican Guard? As Steven Den Beste observed back in September,
The Iraqi army numbers about 300,000 men. Of those about 200,000 are regulars and the others are the "elite" Republican Guard. It should be noted that "elite" is a relative term; the Republican Guard is only elite by comparison to the rest of the Iraqi army. They were in a lot better shape when we fought them in 1991, and they did not fare at all well against our forces. In fact, even in a case where they managed to pull off an ambush, catch our guys by surprise, and significantly outnumber them, our guys fought hard and went through them like a knife through butter. (The case to which I refer was a unit from one of our Mech Infantry divisions.) We took no losses. They were massacred.
Ain't nothing elite about these assholes.
